Ladies,

I am wondering if knitting looms were used in this time period?  I know that there were knitting machines, but where there knitting looms?  Also I am searching for a pattern that makes some sense for men's socks.  Any advice or direction would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Even if a knitting loom is used, there's still got to be some hand knitting to set the heel; since setting the heel is the most interesting/fun section of the knitting, and also the most skilled, it would be just as simple to hand-knit the whole sock, in my opinion; this also seems pretty consistent for home-manufactured socks and stockings.

I believe AGSAS.org has (had?) a period pattern for knit socks; can others share their favorite patterns from the period?

wWw.agsas.org still has Karin Timour's wonderful sock pattern. I've worked  through several patterns and hers is by far the best.
