Hello! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!

My little brother who is 10 years old needs a wool coat. I already know there's a veritable dearth of boy's coat patterns for his size. Is there any chance the sack coat pattern here: http://abrahamslady.com/boys_patterns.html (third pattern down) is appropriate, or can be tweaked to be accurate?

Does anyone know of any other valid choices? I've already tried drafting my own pattern, but since I've never even handled a boy's coat I was kind of at a loss  Tongue. I also tried contacting Mrs. Sarah Jane Meister, because I love the coats she made her boys, but I haven't heard back from her.  Even something to use as a starting point or base would be wonderful.

Thanks for your help!

The one at Abraham's Lady is a Period Impressions pattern, and those don't generally make my list as "user-friendly, produces a period garment", honestly. What kind of measurements are you needing to accommodate?

Let's see, I have a few of his measurements written down and I can get the rest tomorrow.

Waist: 26"
Chest: 26"
Hip: 26"
Sleeve: 14"
Height: 51.5"

Overall he's a rather petite, short, long waisted, little boy. He wears a modern size 8.

I'd make at least one size up if you use this pattern.  My son fit the measurements exactly and when I made it, the coat was too small.  I admit I don't usually make muslin (hangs her head in shame), but I would for this pattern.  Admittedly my son is VERY athletic and broad across the shoulder and slim in the waist.  In modern suits he is an eight in the pants and a 10 or 12 in the coat.

There's also the issue (happened with my 3 boys) that the boy grew faster than I could sew!  Another reason for allowing plenty of "ease"!

I inherited a half finished greatcoat that way.
