Hello!  It's been a while since I have been on here.....now I have a something that is stumping me.  This is the photo of my progress but, let me explain what I am trying to do...

What I am trying to do is something different, obviously a double pouf sleeve cap.  I did this because the pagoda, a draft of Janet Arnold's sleeve was too short and I wanted a longer one.  I thought  by using a double pouff sleeve and attaching a pagoda my problems would be solved.  The pouffs are one piece and cut with the grain, the lining is one piece and cut on the bias.  Are they and am I on the right path?

I will take any suggestions!

Cindy

Hi, Cindy -

Your puffs look fine.

For future reference: Generally, puffing is usually cut on the bias with the lining cut on the straight grain.  Puffing cut on the bias has better drape and gathers better than puffing cut on the straight grain. I fwould NOT change what you've done; just keep it in mind for the future. :-)

I used a ballgown sleeve as the base for my pattern and that is why I did the way I did it.  Now I need to know about attaching a pagoda to the cap.  I have quite a bit of tucks to make it fit.  Do I need to cut it down/taper so the pagoda fits better....slimmer into the cap?

I know this is a straight sleeve into the poufed cap but it fits without tucks.....does that make sense?  The image in my mind is double poufs to a very flowing sleeve.....I just am at a loss for how to cut it down.  Coat sleeve and bishop I understand....this is different.

I used moderate fullness in the lower, full sleeve when I did my maternity dress.

I think your puffs would stand out more if the top of the pagoda part were narrower where it joins the cap.  A little ease would probably be fine, but to get the effect you are describing, if I understand it correctly, the fullness that is there now is too much.  Lovely fabric- please post pics of the finished product!  trish B.

I will leave the poufs the way they are and take off the pagoda, cut in muslin to get the narrowed width at the top and try with poufs, cut pagoda and re-attach.  I had to step away from it for a while and now that we are heading into fall and winter months, this will have to wait until the first of the year for me to finish it.

I will post photos then!

Thanks!
