My five year old daughter has a friend who will be attending our next event with us.  (Her mom is coming along.  Smiley )  As they are close in size, I have extra to outfit her with- a chemise and/or undershirt, drawers and a corded petticoat, and a dress.  But I am afraid that the petticoat will slip down without anything to attach it to.  Should I have her wear the undershirt and add some buttons to the hem for the petticoat to button on?  Or should I have her wear the chemise and make kind of suspenders to button the petticoat to?  Or does either choice sound plausible?

No idea on the authenticity of it, but personally I'd go with a suspender like thing attached to the petticoat waistband. I would be afraid of buttons/buttonholes tearing out if the petticoat buttoned to the undershirt unless there were a LOT of buttons and buttonholes.

Suspenders are actually pretty common one or two.            Stephanie

If the dress happens to be off-the shoulder and short sleeved, you might further help by tying ribbons through to hold the chemise, suspenders, and sleeves together. :-)

How exciting for her! Events are always more fun with friends in tow.

Thanks, ladies!  Suspenders it is then.
And yes, events are more fun with friends!  My daughter is incredibly excited to have her friend join her!  Sometimes we are lucky and there are other like minded moms and children around and other times it is a long weekend with only her little brother for company.
