Godey's frequently had patterns for "patchwork."  What I find interesting is that none of the designs are named.

I pulled most of those patchwork patterns for a co-worker who quilted. Do you think I saved a copy for me?

Please, I didn't see any specific patterns at the site & our only quilt store actively promotes the 'quilts as guidemaps' theory.  Not being a quilt historian, all I could think of was that the Mistress isn't going to favor quiltmaking among her slaves if both quilts & slaves keep disappearing.  I didn't convince her.
Is prefer names of blocks, so I could get a sense of it on-line & not have to buy quilt books.
Thanks!  Jennifer

And on pg. 264 of that 1857 Godeys is an image and directions for a sunbonnet that looks like it is either corded or at least pleasted across the top of the head! Cool!

Melissa,

Did you ever find what you were looking for?

If not, here's something.

Cot Quilt: http://www.patternsfromhistory.com/civil_war/cot_quilt.htm

Haversack: http://www.harriets.com/Sitemap.htm Look under "Wars in History" then "Civil War, Mens Accessories".

I don't know about the accuracy, though.
