I had a search but couldn't find any answers to my question.
It's coming into Winter here in Aus and it gets very cold up where my brother and I volunteer. Now, because he is so damn skinny he feels the cold really badly. He currently has a cotton cap that he wears but I was wondering if there was any period correct hats that were specifically designed for winter wear? He already wears knitted mittens and a scarf along with his coat.
We portray the 1850s through to the late 60s, though his costume is more 60s I think; he wears knickerbockers, a shirt and waistcoat with a neckerchief. We portray Middle Class residents of the Ballarat goldfields and due to the large immigrant population things worn in North America, the UK, France and especially Germany would be suitable.
I found this example on-line:http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/museum/collections/online/image.cfm?ImageFile=/VoyagerImages/Z000/Z00028/Z0002890.jpg&TableKey=OBJECT:166920
Would this be suitable for a boy of 12, possibly knitted? Or are there other options such as a knitted cap/hat?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I think my research skills need some work.
