As a relative newbie to the world of sewing, I had the opportunity to attend the 2012 Ladies & Gentlemen of the 1860s Conference in Harrisburg, PA. Being somewhat hesitant that I would feel a bit out of place, that notion was quickly dispelled by the wonderful people that I met that were so willing to share of their knowledge and talents. The displays of original clothing were like eye candy and I relished being able to get up close and personal in my examinations of the garments and other items out on display.
The conference workshops were all very well presented by subject matter experts. I enjoyed them all and could not pick a favorite!

They had me in awe of their knowledge and the years of research that have gone into their presentations. I appreciated the accompanying handouts and suggested reading lists, which are a great thing for someone like me who is just starting out. Unfortunately I was not able to attend any of the pre-conference workshops due to my schedule, but I was able to purchase the pattern for the ribbon wristlets, so I am looking forward to creating a pair of those beauties.
I cannot say enought good things about the conference. I also want to point out that the accomodations were wonderful and the price very affordable. The conference rooms were easily accessible and the meals were more than ample and tasty to boot! It seemed that every little detail had been attended to. The Marketplace was chock stock with wonderful vendors and I was able to browse at my leisure and never felt that I didn't have enough time to shop...as my checkbook will attest to!
I am looking forward to next year's conference with great anticipation and would recommend anyone to attend, whether you have just put your feet in the water or you are a seasoned veteran. There is something here for everyone, no matter your skill level, and what a chance to meet and connect with like minded individuals.
Kuddos to Carolann and the whole crew at Genteel Arts for providing us with the opportunity to connect and learn.
