Use of baby slings/shawls
«
on:

Does anyone have any good images of mid nineteenth Century women carrying babies in a sling (home made) or using a shawl?
I'd be very grateful, also has anyone on the SA forum used one?
many thanks,

We've discussed this before.

Consensus seems to be that slings/shawls are not appropriate for this era. Options include using a pram or flat out carrying the child and converting to hand-holding as soon as they're ambulatory. Carrying the young child in a sling/shawl is documented to certain specific ethnic groups, but not to average American or British parents.

I thought it had been, but the search function kept timing out on me, I couldn't decide if it was a fault or meant 'no results'.
Thanks for finding the links. very helpful.
