History-heavy events for 2012

Could we post dates and links to events in 2012 here?  I am determined to make it to something great next year, but I have to know months in advance (like, now for next spring and summer).

Even if you don't know exact dates, could you at least mention it and about when it will take place (like - early summer).

There's Westville in Lumpkin, Georgia, of course, Oct 25-28.

The organizer for Independence Village in Oakland, Coles Co. Illinois is checking out dates, but there will probably be an event in May and in September.

I'm also curious what other civilian-oriented history-heavy events will be happening next year, because those are all I'm planning on attending so far.

There is always the Hopewell Furnace event in Pennsylvania. Usually the end of September beginning of October. Super fun! Independence Village is also a really good event.

It's official now. Independence Village will be:

May 25-28, 2012.  That's Memorial Day weekend, so this event will run from Friday afternoon/evening until Monday noon.

and Sept 21-23, 2012.

It'll be 1862, small-town homefront daily life.

For anybody interested in a "history heavy" civilian experience, I'd highly recommend these events, and they're nicely centrally located for midwesterners.

Several of our Living History group are planning a road trip from Montana to Arkansas mid-April to attend the School of the Lady in Powhatan, AR.  We are hoping to follow the Missouri river as much as possible.  Are there any activities going that folks are aware of between April 13-29, 2012 - Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri areas?  Thanks so much!

Welcome to the list Mrs. Spring.  I'm so glad that you decided to join us.  It looks like your journey might be following the Oregon Trail backwards which would certainly add to your 1863 character.

Hi. I'm new. I just have a question about the event in Lumpkin, Ga. I know it has already passed but is it held every year? And what kind of event is it?

If you are referring to the Surrender of Secession in October,  That was the third in a series that were held 2 years apart.  The First was set in 1860 and was just pre-war, the second set in 1863 - mid-war, and the 3rd was 1865 - just post war.  All were wonderful, but the series is over.  You can read more about it here: http://thesewingacademy.org/index.php?topic=8647.0

I do not know if there will be Civil War events at that location in future.
