Ladies and Gentlemen,
My brother and I are working on several small projects culminating in one large impression for 1st Manassas. Having tackled the large projects, the focus on the small ones has slipped our minds or been on the table too long and temporarily forgotten.

We are in need of a source for gold 3/8 inch flat trim, not yellow or golden yellow but gold trim for use on VMI Cadet Chevrons. The modern chevrons don't conform in any way to period rank and need to be made to specially fit the period coatees being constructed. We've tried several sources including local fabric shops and several online sources but the promising sources are sold out or don't have a product that comes close.

I'm putting in a link to the best reproduction source we've found so people know what we are looking for and a link to a period VMI Cadet photograph that allows you to see what set of chevrons we're looking to reproduce. We appreciate any suggestions for sources for this trim!

We're not looking for offers from anyone to make them for us, just sources. Also, yes we know Wooded Hamlet/Needle and Thread is the #1 source but when we were there a couple of months ago they didn't have any trim in stock matching our needs.

Thank you very much in advance and I look forward to any replies!

Not sure if you've checked these sources, but they may have what you need:

http://www.wmboothdraper.com/

http://www.burnleyandtrowbridge.com/

http://www.najecki.com/

All three of them are very reputable vendors, and very nice folks. They would be happy to talk to you about what you need, and may be able to suggest another vendor, or special order the item, if they do not have what you need.

You might also want to check the Authentic Campaigner forum. They would surely know of a vendor.

Good luck to you!!

I have some vintage trim in real metallic, but it has a bit of a scallop pattern in it - however, it is not scalloped.  I used it as sleeve trim here:

Ladies,
Thank you very much for both of your responses! I've already checked with Burnley & Trowbridge and WM Booth Draper and no luck so I'll try my luck with Najecki this evening and see if he has enough on hand.

Kay,
Is the trim you've used on the dress a true 3/8 inch? It appears wider to me looking at the photographs. Due to the size of the chevrons we can't go larger than a 3/8 for the trim and the closest surviving examples are 3/8 as well so we'd like to replicate them as close as possible.

Thank you again!

I have 2 widths on hand: one is just under 3/8", the other just under 1/2"

PS the date on the board is 1977, and back then the narrow one sold for 68 cents/yd, the wider one for $1.80/yd - this is not metal coated plastic (like modern tinsel) but real metal.

Kay,
I've found what I was looking for finally with Najecki and he shipped it yesterday. Thank you so much for your help!

Yay Kirby! I was pretty certain one of those would be able to help you. So funny that I was just there that day you asked, surfing their site for something else.  Cheesy

Cheers,
