Hello, All,

Does anyone have experience with original overall buttons?  I have just made a pair of men's overalls and have temporarily sewn on some black enameled wooden buttons but would like to hear your thoughts on the correct type for this garment.

Personally, I have found that China buttons are much more durable in holding a stress point together.

Wood buttons often end up cracking from absorbing too much moisture and then drying out between use.

If the overalls were mine, I would put on some larger black china buttons and back them with an extra pad of leather and/or cloth using heavy carpet/button thread.

Four hole dark mother of pearl buttons would be my second choice.

Thanks, Chip.  I agree that the wooden buttons are farby at best and since my straps are a bit too long it won't take long to make modifications.  Perhaps I'll find some better buttons at Manassas.  I really want stamped metal buttons or rubber buttons.  I think pearl would be next for this utilitarian garment. I am going to give Mr.Warren Tice, author of Dating Buttons, a call and pick his very knowledgeable brain a bit.  I have that book but he doesn't organize it in a way that one can easily tell what type of buttons were used on various garments.  Thanks again for the advice.
