Here are some more of my little girls. (Can you tell I am addicted?) Evelyn (left), Abigail (from other topic) and Caroline Sophia (right) and these are not named (being bodiless) but the small one in the middle looks like a Phoebe to me. come to think of it the large one on the left looks like a Lucinda, the one in the left back row looks like Charlotte, the right back row (similar to Lucinda) looks like a Beulah, and the right front Julia. what do you think?

Nice. You have quite the collection. Love it. I'm no help with names. My name is modern and it seems like all my favorite names are modern. :S

LOL thats ok Brooke. I was thinking more about their "personality" going with the name. I looked up names from the 1860s and those were in the list. There were some very strange names in the list also.

Hello Terry, I love your collection, they are wonderful. Did you find them all on eBay, at doll shows, or were they family heirlooms? I'd love to collect more flat head China's, but I think the prices are far beyond my reach, however I don't know if that is just their going price around the country or if the prices are inflated where I live. How would you know what is a good price? I once saw a fine reproduction head for $150 of an 1840 doll that I loved, but it was a tough sell getting it past my husband. I must say that I do like the ESC dolls, and hopefully one day will have one of each.

Judith, Some of these are from ebay. I have had Abigail for over 20 years. she is from an antique store in Leadville Colorado. I got her for Christmas. There are some lovely dolls on Ebay and if you watch and bid carefully you can get some wonderful deals. I have gotten a couple of complete dolls with clothes for less than 150.00. I tend not to bid more than 50 or 60 dollars on heads and I look the pictures over very carefully to make sure they are not badly broken or reproductions.
What did the head that you saw look like? There are several types of flat head china heads. There are three different ones in the picture of my girls (some of them are also called high brow) and three different ones in the picture with Abigail. Did it look like any of those?
In addition to the ones in the picture I have several low brows in all sizes including a "pet name" one named Mabel which is my grandmother's name, but I didn't show them because they were two late in period.
I am sorry but I don't know what ESC means.

hello Terry, The $150 doll head I was looking at had twist braids at the side of her ears, and a twist braid bun at the back, very 1840s hairstyle. I thought it was too high a price for a reproduction head. A complete doll might have been another story, but just for a head, that is waaaaay too much, at least in my budget.

Judith, Yes I am inclined to agree with you. Unless it is a very special reproduction done by a very famous doll artist like Emma Clear.

I love all your little ladies!!
I also have a flat top Phoebe in my collection, as well as a Charlotte, though my Charlotte is an ABG Parian with long ringlets.

I do love them! I only have a few (and am trying to keep them in th 11-13" range) but I want every one I see. Sorry, ABG is Alt, Beck & Gottschalk, the porcelain facotry that made my Charlotte. She is from the early 1860s.

Gosh Terry you have some beautiful dolls. Where's the drooling smiley. I doubt you could pick up a Clear doll for that price. Isnt it funny to think there reproductions. I would love to have Martha Washington.

Oh thank you Donna. I confess to drooling my self sometimes. Emma Clear's reproductions were works of "art" in themselves. I have some of the "Janet Pace" re issues of some of Emma Clear's dolls. but I still like the little old placid faced flat top chinas.
