Paula, I have not been reading on the SA for a while but have to say, congratulations on sewing with kids at school!  I have done four patch sewing programs with kids at schools and the Sheldon Museum for over ten years.  Kids love the texture of fabrics, the hands-on really making something and learning what is a new skill for most of them.  I have worked with kindergarteners through sixth graders.  We precut the squares and pre-thread needles to save time.  I have only had two boys who wouldn't try it, and one kindergartener who ended up in tears because he was tired and not feeling well.  We all know the joy and power of sewing our own clothing and should take any opportunity to pass on those things!  Huzzah for sewing.
