Okay, my humble opinion.

1)  Dotted swiss is okay and the print is okay, but I don't know of any documentation for printed dotted swiss.

2)  Ok

3)  Good

4)  ok

How would this be for a corded sunbonnet and/or undersleeves?

http://webstore.quiltropolis.net/stores_app/Browse_Item_Details.asp?Shopper_id=5629632156245629&Store_id=198&page_id=23&Item_ID=20693

or has anyone seen anything similar a little more budget friendly.  I have been searching for a couple of hours now.

Thanks,

Kym

KymR,

In this thread, Eileen refers to a pink and white dimity. I'm guessing something on the same page as the expensive stuff you found might work for the sunbonnet.

Others might want to confirm since this is a guess.

It's post #476

Thank you.

Just to clarify, on the dotted swiss, it does say that the dots are woven in.  So how do you feel about it now?

Rachel, what K meant is a print on top of a woven dotted swiss. Not printed dots.

Hope that helps!

Hi,

I would *really* like to have a summer day dress this year, so my question is:  Would a floral grey dotted swiss fabric be appropriate for a woman lying at the base of the stairs and looking up at the fatal porch of forty?   I intend to swan about outside and look middle class.  And not sweaty glowing.

My era is early 1850s at the end of the Applegate Trail, Oregon.  So far, I haven't seen any documention regarding printed dotted swiss at that time.

Oh dear!  Apparently the fabric sold out while I was composing my question.

Continuing to be the hot,

Does that mean we get to refer to you as "the hot Mrs. Flint" until you find a good sheer and make it up?  Grin

I'll ask Mr. Flint.

Perhaps the slightly flustered Mrs. Flint (sf Mrs. Flint) might be better.

"Beige & Red Floral Print on Black & Dark Gray Print Stripe Lawn Fabric
Suitable for Blouses
100% Cotton
57" Wide"

Well this is $3.95, is it at all worth buying? perhaps for a child's dress (1855-1865)? I just love it, and love the price!

So I've completely fallen in love with the printed dotted swiss that was posted a few posts ago, does anyone have an opinion on whether it is okay for 1860's?  I'm thinking of purchasing it even if it's not correct (I have a modern dress I'd like to make).

While I'm here I'd like an opinion on this fabric I have in my stash. It's cotton and the spots are cut not woven. My concern is the two colors.

Hah!

Perhaps *this* link will work to the fabric that I am considering for a sheer day dress suitable for a cough older lady cough cough.  What does the Combined Wisdom think?

Buff,

This fabric has been discussed here.  I know that it was okay.  I love the color way and I am sure that it will make up beautifully. Good Luck.

Here is the link the fabric discussion.

Miss Victorian Rose,

I love that fabric.  I am not an expert, but it look good to me.  I would make a modern dress out of it even if it is not period appropriate.

Go forth, Mrs. Flint! I am 46 and am wearing it in another colorway. A lady of some years my senior wears it in the black colorway. Another lady of undetermined years, and yet I'm certain is my senior, is also making this up in this colorway.

Enjoy!

Hi Ladies,

Searching again, and found this. Is this an OK for 1860-1865?

https://www.fabricmartfabrics.com/xcart/812882-Cotton-Shirting-Plaid-Ecru-Navy-Slate-Blue-White-60-Wide.html

Also, can I use brown cotton shirting for dress lining? (Not for this dress.)

Thank you.
