Does anyone here know of any history-heavy events in the northern Alabama/southern Tennessee area? I would love to attend some, but it seems that all the events I've been to are really just jokes as far as authenticity. Any help would be appreciated!

{Also I'd love to get in contact with any board members from this area! Smiley}

I'm not from there, but come down south for events when they're being held there. Unfortunately, you just missed one in Tennessee a couple weeks ago--northern Tennessee though, not southern, "In the Van" near Knoxville.

If she doesn't see this post or you don't get other answers, write me for the email address of Terre Lawson, who's from Alabama. She helped put on In the Van and knows more about the various shades of history-heavy in the general Alabama area. Sometimes one can find a like-minded group and do an event-within-an-event, even at a mainstream one.

Unfortunately, sometimes attending history-heavy events requires travel, since as you've noticed, they're not always in one's own area. Can you squeeze across the state line to the Columbus, Georgia area this fall? Westville (Struggles of Secesstion) is coming up in October: http://www.strugglesofsecession.com/ Registration is ending soon, though.

Hello Maggie! I am Glad you posted, I live in Satsuma AL which is just North of Mobile. I too am interested in more events where the Authenticity level of appreciation is a bit higher Smiley I don't have any events to add but I do Have a site suggestion, try www.civilwartraveler.com. I have been on the search as well and it's not always easy to find events. They have listings in east, Middle , and west TN.  Hope this helps.

There are more quality events for civilian participation in the Southeast than meet the eye.
The ones that I am referring to are typically not advertised and are spread by word of mouth/e-mail, etc.

Earlier this Summer I did list B-ATL, where a lot of quality folks gather at a specific location within the event structure. It is nice to be in an environment entirely free from individuals that simply don't care.
When you make contacts, you then find out about opportunities that are not advertised to the re-enactment mainstream crowd.

There are some events that I attend that I would simply not list on an open forum. I would not want to be the person responsible for polluting an already great event and ruin the efforts of folks who want to keep their activities on a very high quality plateau.
