I'm looking for fashion plate images of young men who could potentially be a model for "Laurie" from Little Women.  I'm working on some paper dolls in the style of the fashion plates and have had success with the ladies, but I can't find anything to base Laurie off of.  I use the plates as a model of position and proportion, since they're not exactly realistic in either all of the time (which is why I can't just draw from any image).  I can change anything else, though--hair, clothing, face, etc.  Because they're paper dolls, he has to be standing, not leaning on something.  The only ones I can find have the men leaning on a wall or something!

Thanks in advance!

Jobeth -

Do a search on this forum for a discussion on the Arts Decoratifs site. I think I titled the thread "You're going to need a bigger hard drive".  It will give you a link to hundreds of French fashion plates, including quite a few mid-19th century men's. Most of them are standing upright.  Wink

If you can't find the thread, I'll post a link to the site late this evening.

Regards,
Carolann

Here is a fast link to the sight Carolann said.  http://www.bibliothequedesartsdecoratifs.com/consultation2/consultation.html  put a check in the box next to the year you choose, and click on the number.a whole page of plates will come up for that year. Can take like forever to to down load. Men are usually at the bottom. When you find one you want click on that pic, it opens in a new window and takes a while to clear up, but you can solo in on just a section of the pic. If you want to save it click on "impression" on the right hand side. It opens a new window you can save from. Time consuming and FUNNNNN! I'm quoting this from memory so if I left anything out let me know.Once you get the hang of it the fact it's written in French wont matter.
