I was thinking of knitting on of the muffatee patterns on page 262. Does anyone know what size needles I should use?

Amelia I know they talked about this over on the cwneedleworkers group. Maybe Colleen or someone will be along with an answer.

ok thanks! I'll go check on there! I'm so glad that you posted this Becky. I'm more of a knitter than a sewer and they have a lot of patterns in here!

You should it's very relaxing! I got the "I taught myself to knit" book from Micheal's and then read all the little articles in books like this and it tells you all the different stitches and stuff!

I've tried to get the hang of it a few times, but I really should get a good how-to book, something I can refer to when I get into a tangle.

Thanks for sharing, Becky! I hope you will learn to knit soon. Like Amelia said, it is quite relaxing and fun. Getting books on knitting are always great, but for some people they can be rather confusing. However, I hope if you get the book Amelia recommended that it will be helpful. If you need any help on something else, let me know and I will see if I can help. I am no expert, but sometime getting personal experience tips are really great! lol FG

1. Is there a specific book/article that has a good overview of the process of understanding period knit and/or crochet patterns, directions, and specifications? I know there are various pieces of such a thing...
2. Someone should really write an annotated version of The Workwoman's Guide, or a separate secondary book that helps to make it more accessible, and references other resources that could be used in conjunction with it (like classic works of literature have annotated copies or editorial guides to help them make sense and to discuss what various scholars have thought about the work). I know I'd buy it!
(And, yes, I know - I'm obsessed with annotations. It's true.)

There is an excellent article about period knitting at Ragged Soldier in the Virginia's Veranda section.
Website is owned by a pair of Academy members, article written by another.
Happy reading!
