A useful book that I have run across is Churches on the Oregon Trail: churches of Christ and Christian churches in early Oregon, 1842-1882 by Jerry Rushford, 1997, College Press Pub. Co.  Rushford describes the revival/movement that led to the formation of these denominations.  These Protestants were called by their detractors Alexandrites IIRC.  I had encountered the term without understanding it--now I do.

Actually, Campbellites, not Alexanderites.  I are one (essentially).

Campbell's first name was Alexander.  Well, one of the Campbells involved.

I may be relted, but we all know about looking for documentation....
