Well, I suppose it is time to stop lurking about and start asking questions.  (I am so new nearly anything I've wondered has been answered with a quick search.)

I am considering upgrading my daughter's diapers in the spring (our year is winding down now) if she hasn't potty trained by then.  Do you think something like this  http://www.oregonnaturalfoods.com/tie-nappies-2/ would  be similar to the tie diapers in the Workwoman's Guide?

Would wool covers like these http://www.greenmountaindiapers.com/woolcompare.htm be accurate?

It would be nice to not have to sneak off to change a diaper.  Thanks!

Elaine, hello from a fellow cloth diaper lover!  Smiley  I use flats and the old fashioned metal pins that I bought from Green Mountain Diaper Co, Karen is a wonderful Christian that has great products and great customer service. I also use wool covers, I've had Aristocrats and didn't like them but the Disana covers are really nice and I think the most period appropriate. I believe that diaper bird's eye is not what we're used to today, my fabric swatch book shows something that looks more like pique to me. So, I can't help about the diaper part more than that. I hope my rambling post helps a little.  Wink

It absolutely helps.  I think just I'd sew ties to prefolds, but I wanted to  know if the look was right.  For daily use we use Bumgenius one size, but they aren't any more period accurate than Huggies.
I saw the Disana covers and really liked they way they looked too.

I had one of the original BumGenius' when they first came out!  Smiley  A nifty diaper but you're right, they aren't exactly period correct.

Sadly, I have no practical 19th century skills, but knitting is on my list of things to learn .  Maybe I'd better get on that since DD has no desire to potty train.

Possible Topic Shift:  Preschool teacher speaking here:

How old is your daughter Huh  Independent toileting includes many component skills.  Some people take months to develop the skills, others just seem to wake up one day & stay dry forever!

I used many, many cloth diapers years ago -- now he mainly wears Nike & adidas.

She's 2 1/2, and showing many signs of readiness (knows when she is wet or soiled, dry diaper when she wakes up in the morning, wants to wear panties) she's just not mentally ready and actively does not want to go on the potty.  Sadly, one of the necessary skills is the willingness to sit on the toilet.  Sigh.  I have diaper fatigue.
