Oh ok, LOVE That site! I'm just getting into the 30's now (trimming a REDICULOUS bonnet!) and that really helps!

New fabric sale at fabric.com has some 108" wide "eyeball" cotton prints for sale for $5.99/yard in different colorways.  See  http://www.fabric.com/clearance-fabric-cotton-prints-clearance-discount-fabric-50-off-cotton-and-quilting-fabrics-civil-war-chronicles-108-quilt-backing-scallops-blue.aspx

At that width it is like getting it for less than $3 per yard.

I have just spent the last couple of hours wandering through other people's Pinterest sites and "re-pinning" great references.  For those of you who don't know, Pinterest is a "bulletin board" where you can display images you have come across (like from clothing collections) and when you click on them, it takes you to the original source.  A person can view other people's pictures, and "re-pin" them to your own bulletin board, and you can still get back to the original source.  I have found hundreds of pics of original garments, great repros, accessories, etc.

Since there seems to be a number of Pinterest sites devoted to the mid-19th century, and I'm pretty sure more than a handful of the owners belong here, would folks mind sharing their links, so we can all benefit?

If any of the information I have written underneath the pictures is wrong, I would appreciate a correction in the comments boxes below the pics.  If you see a pic of yourself that you would rather not be there, I will remove it. I linked to pics of people in full dress from here on there.  I have linked to pics of people in various states of underwear IF the pics started out on a blog that is open to the public.  If you have posted here in your underwear, I will ask permission, because I figure this site is a bit more private.

Here's mine:  http://pinterest.com/jenny2492/

Any others?

Mine's here, for what it's worth.

Be warned, it's by no means solely 19th-century!

How can I complete my pinterest account without connecting it to Facebook or Twitter? I'm not comfortable with connecting accounts.

I'm wondering the same thing. I wouldn't mind connecting accounts, but I don't have facebook... Sad

I made a fake Facebook account (shhh!!).  That's why my pinterest account is jenny - I use that Facebook account only for getting into things like this and seeing other people's pictures here.  No personal info on it at all.

You don't have to have it connected. I used FB to sign up, because I didn't want to spend the time finding out how to sign up otherwise; but once I was signed up it was easy as pie to disconnect from FB.

Aww, that's really special! Actually those aren't mine; it's just a link to a photo. I was toying with the idea of a Sleeping Beauty/Briar Rose costume, and used Pinterest to collect inspiration pictures. Those are some really special paper tolls. I never knew they even existed until a Google image search!

I'm quite sure I'm NOT posting in the correct place.....but...

I will be in Rochester this weekend and would like to "Civil War Shop". So, if anyone could recommend any shops or fashion exhibits I could go to. I'm not sure how much time I have, but I would appreciate any suggestions. I know the Genesee Village is closed for the season.

Thanks.

Maureen,

How about a special opportunity? I will be at work (the Genesee Country Village and Museum) on Monday. If you can stay that long, though it is a holiday, I would be happy to give you a special behind the scenes tour. Our gift shop is not open, and our gallery is being reassembled (we can sneak a peek at the collection) but it's still a lovely place. Let me know in a pm.
