I was looking through ebay and found this interesting picture of a young girl.  It says its from c. 1860, but it doesn't seem to be that early.  What do you guys think?

It looks late 60's or early 70's to me.  (It says circa 1860's, but not which end of that decade...)

I'd say your eye is getting good.  The styles are typical of the 1868-1875-ish range, and it's a good example of that era, but definitely post-dates the war years by a bit.

It's a good example of "Civil War Sells"--and caveat emptor.

Thank you Grin   I though it was really cute, but something just screamed 1870 to me.  Probably the skirt...   I was just looking at pictures for inspiration for the 8 yards of silk sitting in my closet that haven't been talking to me  Undecided

I am trying educate myself but there are so many things I just don't know!~  Is a V-neck or U-shaped neck filled with a chemisette corect for 1860-65?
When you see a young woman with sausage curls around her face, a wide collar, narrower sleeves and perhaps lace gloves, is that 1850's?
I am looking at as many images as I can online and trying to apply what I am learning to what I see.
I am 50 now-would it be appropriate for me to wear some vestiges of 50's stlyes if I am a middle class or working class Northern woman?
