About a month ago I was presented with a plan to provide an outfit for a cousin's wedding. OOH...a challenge. Since I had never made a garment smaller than a size 38, I figured it would be fun. The plan was to provide a 3 year old ring bearer with an outfit that would fit in with the rest of the "Big Boys" and their period unifroms. So one day, boredom set in and I figured I would see what could be done from scratch. Well in about an hour here is what I came up with. Using measurements for a pinafore as a basis for my pattern, I simply added some sleeves, drew in the waist, and added some "Military Flare". Here is the semi final result. You can just barely see the collar of the shirt and one of the cuffs sticking out. All of the fabric is FHW and from scraps I had laying around. I had run out of small general service buttons, so the metal buttons or merely ones that I took off of my "21st Century" uniform from work. I also made a small pair of knee breeches for the lad. So with a little help from "Elizabeth" & her Pinafore Pattern, some scraps, and a little internet browsing I created this littel "Pinafore-Frock-Concoction" or we may call it a "Pinafrocktion"
Once I get the images I will post them from the funeral...I mean wedding, which I might add was held up for about 15 to 20 minutes while they looked for the little guy. He was later found to be having a sword and water fight in the "John" with his big brother.
The item was a one time deal, and it is doubtful that the little guy will ever wear it again, or ever take part in a period event, but it sure was fun making it.
