For those who don't know, each year the members of the faculty for the Civilian Symposium are given a length of fabric and told, "Make a garment." The women all get a dress length of one fabric, and the men all get a vest length of (sometimes different) fabric. The faculty can then make any garment they want.
This year I was honored to be on the faculty, and I used my length of fabric to make an 1840s dress! I've never done 1840s before and it was a fun challenge, though I thought several times that I might have bitten off more than I could chew. I based it on a few features from some dresses and images that I loved. It is 90% handsewn.
Huge, huge thanks go out to Liz Clark for all of her helping and cheerleading! And the cap is from Miller's Millinery!
