Hello
I'm planning on making a linen frock coat this week. I've got some 6oz and 10oz linen. What weight would be better for a frock the lighter or the heavier linen.
Thanks.

Is the weight per lineal yard, or square yard?  If per lineal yard, How wide is the fabric?  I suspect the heavier one would be better, but would like to know the answers first.

In that case either one would work, depending on how heavy a coat you want.  By way of comparison, the 1865 Quartermaster Manual prescribed wool flannel for sack coats to weigh 5.5 oz per lineal yard, 27" wide.  That works out to 7.33 oz per square yard.  So your 6 oz material would be a bit lighter than Federal sack coat material, and the 10 oz quite a bit heavier.

Thanks, its good to know either one will work. This will be my first time making a linen garment so this helps.
